Matt, the more I listen to your podcast with Steve The Mormon, the more amazed I am at your audacity and arrogance in the face of your flawed assertions. You are clearly one of the wise men referred to in Isa 29:14.

It also amazes me how Christianity can single out a scripture and build an entire erroneous doctrine around it like John 4:24 (God is a spirit) with absolutely no consideration for the larger context of the Bible. Its surprising that Christianity hasn't rallied around Heb 12:29-God is a consuming fire...Then we could all sit around and listen to you rail on Steve about what temperature God is. Or using your bent logic, we'd have to conclude that spirit=fire with no other options possible, so lets build a religious doctrine around this: fire hath not flesh and bones...Perfect.

Now lets talk about spirit.

Let's use Matt's definition of spirit: "disembodied ghost" and insert that using His brilliant logic...

John 6:63 - It is the "disembodied ghost" that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are "a disembodied ghost", and they are life.

SO, WORDS ARE DISEMBODIED GHOSTS. OK.

John 3:5-6 - Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the "disembodied ghost", he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the "disembodied ghost" is "disembodied ghost".

SO, I MUST ASSUME THAT MATT THINKS HE'S BORN OF THE "DISEMBODIED GHOST" i.e. spirit, AND THEREFORE IS A DISEMBODIED GHOST HIMSELF, because you can't argue with Matt's unimpeachable logic and doctrinal understanding. It says right there in black and white- that which is born of the spirit IS SPIRIT. Now I have not met Matt, but it must be really creepy talking to him, given his obvious immaterial nature...

1 Cor 6:17 - But he that is joined unto the Lord is one "disembodied ghost".

SO, I'VE SEEN A LOT OF CHRISTIANS WALKING AROUND AND GOING TO CHURCH WHO CLAIM TO BE JOINED TO CHRIST (LIKE MATT), BUT I HAVEN'T SEEN A LOT OF DISEMBODIED GHOSTS. SO ARE YOU GUYS OUT THERE NOT REALLY JOINED UNTO CHRIST? HMMM...but we can't argue with Matt's understanding of "spirit", so if you are joined to Christ, you are a disembodied ghost because it says it right there in the Bible. What do you do with your flesh and bones?

1 Pet 1:11 - Searching what, or what manner of time the "disembodied ghost" of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

OH, DEAR...I SEE A CONFLICT COMING:

Luke 24:39 - Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a "disembodied ghost" hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

UH OH, THE SCRIPTURES TELL US THAT CHRIST IS NOT A DISEMBODIED SPIRIT AND THEN TURN RIGHT AROUND AND SAY HE IS! WHAT DO WE DO WITH THAT?

Well, if you are a follower of Christ and still have a body, then I wouldn't buy into Matt Slick's proposition that God is STRICTLY a disembodied ghost, otherwise, you're not doing a very good job of being joined unto Christ 'cause you still have a body.

I'm serious when I say that Christianity as defined by Matt is not the Christianity of the Bible. Matt teaches another God and another Christ and following his guidance will lead you to hell.

Join the one true church. The Mormon church. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We understand doctrine in the correct larger context of Scripture and know that there is a true, more sophisticated understanding of 'spirit' beyond Matt's ridiculous premise that spirit=disembodied ghost.

There are 4 norms to evaluate a religion

1. Its origin
2. Its road to salvation
3. The personal aspect of salvation
4. The result of salvation for the life hereafter.

1. The origin. After the Bible has been written and it is accepted throughout the thousands of years that the Bible has existed that it is the inspired written word of God. Any amendments to that or changes are of course totally illigitimate. The Bible is the Word of our covenant God who made a testament with us His people. You do not ever change a testament that has been given by the testator. It simply can not be done and would not carry any weight in a court of law. So any new book or books that add to the Bible are simply illigitamete while falsely promoting the thought of being original.

2. Salvation is clearly set out in the Bible between Gen. 1 and Rev. 22. Nothing is needed to enhance this doctrine. therefore anything that purports an additional way to salvation is erroneous and misleading.

3.the way of Salvation is through the acceptance in faith that all the works of Christ are sufficient for my salvation when I acept them in faith. That's it.

4. The result of this salvation is that in my next life I will be meeting my saviour who will intercede for me at God's judment day that I have been bought by Christ through His suffering.

I am really sorry for those people who can not grasp the simplicity of God's Word. That's how it is because God said so. Therefore do away with all your manmade documents and abide by the Word.

Cor,
The problem with Christianity is that its doctrines were fabricated by uninspired individuals over the course of hundreds of years, without the benefit of divine guidance. These errors continue to be perpetuated by people like Matt Slick, who might spin convincing apologetic rhetoric, but who "teach for doctrines the commandments of men." (Mark 7:7)

For example, your understanding of the origin of the Bible is incorrect. The current collection of books was only finalized in the 1500s and some notable Christians like Martin Luther were still not happy with that version. And to suggest that the current version of the Bible is Gods final word to us utterly and completely un-biblical.

Your suggestion that the path to salvation is clearly set out in the Bible in the Old and New Testaments is correct. Your presupposition that additional or continuing revelation can't support the understanding of, and testify to, that same path to salvation is unbiblical and one of the grave errors of evangelical Christianity.

In your 3rd point, you're correct again is stating that savlation is through faith in Jesus Christ. Christianity's problem is that it doesn't understand the true nature of faith or belief, because it's doctrines were fabricated in the uninspired counsels of men in centuries gone by.

In point 4, judgment day will go well for you only if you've come to the true understanding of faith in Christ. Faith in Christ as clearly defined in the Bible, means to be obedient to the laws and ordinances of His gospel. Take a good long hard look at Matt 19:16-22 and just try to continue to convince yourself that faith without works is all you need. Then read Rev 22:14 and decide for yourself if you're ready for judgement day. If you need a biblical explanation of Eph 2:8-9, let me know.
