Matt Slick and Tim Staples Three

Matt Slick and Tim Staples Three

Round three :-) and it seems like the logic of what is "necessary" still seems to be an issue as to defining necessary and exactly what does "essential" and necessary mean.

A definition is a definition. Tim probably wants to have two definitions for necessary so that he can then equivocate.

Honestly, if i were you, when he started insisting on being illogical, i would just say: OK, thats your position, the listener be the judge, next topic. No need to extend too much on an obvious thing like that necessary thing.

Another interesting point: didnt these people read the books of the law? I mean, being nice and doing charity is part of the law...

I love it: The tax collector kept the commandments, Matt!

"Be merciful to me, a sinner."

Either he was a sinner, broke the commandments. Or he lied about being a sinner. Lying is a sin, so's presumption.

Staples is pitiful.

Baptism is necessary as our obedience to the command of scripture. What is necessary for salvation is FAITH.

People get baptized and go to hell, having not formed a saving faith in Jesus Christ. On the other hand people can go to heaven through FAITH in Jesus Christ anytime without having the chance to be baptized.

Paul has an interesting attitude towards the Gospel in relation to baptism here:

1 Cor 1:17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel--not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

If baptism is necessary for salvation as faith is, then Paul's perspective as shown in this verse is very dangerous and reckless.

However, as the verse points out the power is found in the cross and not in the water.

God Bless.

BTW, the thief on the cross dishonors his mother and father by simply being a thief and bringing shame to them by dying on the cross.

I enjoyed listening to part 1 of this debate, and I would like to ask you if you can make parts 2 and 3 available for download again. There seems to be substantial interest in this thread of the Catholic Answers Forum in this as well.
